PS3/XBOX360 REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS ARCADE GAME

The Simpsons Arcade Game is more than just some random game….its a beautiful trip down memory lane.

Boy, I am certainly getting old. You see this game was released in arcades around 1991, when I was about six years old and….wait, what? Yes, that’s right I said ARCADE. Yep, ya see in my day we had these buildings filled with coin-operated video game cabinets, where parents would drop off their kids with about $10 bucks while they go off and shop somewhere or hang out on a beach or something. There are few games I still remember from my arcade playing games, mainly Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and a handful of others and  as they were the headliners for any and all arcades and they commanded the big bucks and the best players around…but who couldn’t help, after a day of getting whipped, just plunking down  your last two quarters into a game like The Simpsons and maybe make a few new friends while you try to rifle your way through waves and waves of bad guys.

For some who don’t remember how games used to be, this one sure will help as things you don’t even hear about anymore in current gaming are a plenty here. Things like power-ups for extra health, or level bosses, or even getting extra lives. I mean shit, I was able to find a good code for this game, do you know what codes are? There was a time where you had to memorize a number of button presses and toggle switches so that you get awesome stuff like unlimited lives or new characters, unlike nowadays where everything is just bought and paid for.

There are some things money can’t buy but for $10 you can take a blast to the past at a time when games were more than just games…they were grains of your childhood. And if you have kids of your own, don’t you think its time you showed one of gaming’s pure gems?
