Review: The Cleveland Show “A Nightmare on Grace Street”
A Halloween-theme show: Cleveland’s new acquaintance goes on a killing spree after Cleveland rejects him; Donna makes Cleveland and Rallo spend a night in a haunted house to prove their bravery after they tell her that they fear slumber parties; Roberta gets caught up in a love triangle with a vampire and a werewolf.
Spoilers below!
Cleveland Jr’s halloween costume is pretty great but I really enjoyed Rallo’s rendition of “I’ve got a Feeling” with guest backing vox from his big bro and his mom. You see, Rallo’s celebrating his first sleepover with his friends but gets a little scared and calls for Cleveland to come pick him up from school. Back at Stoolbend high, this kid Edwin Mullins who looks like Rob Pattinson from Twilight. Apparently, Roberta wants to get his attention, so she jumps off a cliff only to be saved by a werewolf.
To celebrate a pumpkin carving at the bar, Turry invites over all the guys for a sleepover of their own. But, then Cleveland gets scared and calls Donna to come pick him up. The next night, bickering between Rallo and Cleveland ensues and ruins halloween. Donna can’t stand it so she takes them both to the scariest house in the neighborhood littered with a bunch of gags not unlike a “Home Alone” house. But, the joke is on Donna because Donnie the local crazy-murderous guy is in her house!
This episode was kinda lame. The gay twilight storyline was pretty much in neutral(just like the shit movies) and was predictable. The main story was a bit cliched in the “Are You Afraid of the Dark” vein and didn’t have much of anything fresh. The only thing saving this episode, was Rallo’s sing-a-longs.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
