Which classic FOX cartoons should get limited returns?

FOX has been on this trend as of late where they have taken classic TV franchises like X-Files, 24, and now Prison Break, and they have decided to bring them back for limited TV runs. So this got me thinking, which FOX cartoons that are no longer around should get limited returns? Welp, we’ve got five ideas:

5) The Critic

After one season on ABC, The Critic did 10 episodes on FOX where the show had pretty good ratings, but was expensive to produce. It also didn’t adhere to FOX’s rather strict ‘Family-centric’ programming in that shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons did just that where you had your mom, dad, and kids setting. The Critic was more of a satire on pop culture and Jay Sherman can carry episodes all by himself. I think with animation production costs getting quite a bit cheaper, I think a short run of The Critic would be well-received.

4) The PJ’s

If for no other reason than to get Eddie Murphy back, The PJ’s should definitely make a come back. The series was awarded three Emmy awards and since Eddie really doesn’t do anything anymore we can’t blame scheduling conflicts on him not wanting to make a return. The stop motion series would provide a good amount of variety currently lacking on the FOX network in terms of presentation, aesthetic, and premise, and I think would make a more than welcome return if given the opportunity.

3) Futurama

Now that Futurama’s Comedy Central run is over, why not do some short-run stuff on FOX? A cross-over episode with The Simpsons last year proves that there is still an audience here. Not only that, but the show has a great fan base of Facebook, tons of merchandise, and has produced short-films, so doing something temporary could be a boon of a success for 20th Century FOX.

2) High School USA!

To be honest, I really just want to hear the intro music over and over again for 30 minute run-times, I’d be happy with that. In any case, I’ve always felt that High School USA! was the most ‘FOX-ready’ series of the Animation Domination Hi-Def lineup due to the fact that the show featured a number of screwed up families tethered together by a classroom full of screwed up kids. I’d love to see the return of Mr. Merriwether due to the fact that he could be the one guy who is more screwed up than Peter Griffin on Sunday Nights.

1) King of the Hill

Mike Judge is doing just fine without cartoons. After the cancellation of King of the Hill, Mike would go on to try The Goode Family for ABC, a second stint of Beavis and Butthead, and now the produces the hit HBO series Silicon Valley. But, despite the success of his HBO series, his heart will always be in cartoons and he still lovingly tells stories producing them whenever he’s in interviews with Howard Stern, Marc Maron, and others. So, why not bring back the entire Hill gang for a short-run?
