Video: Former Cartoon Celebrities are Currently A Sad (But Comical) Sight

Ever wonder where your favorite former cartoon characters are now? Well, animator & voice actor Steve Cutts has the answer, in the darkly funny video short entitled “Where Are They Now?”

It begins with narration by an aging and morbidly obese Jessica Rabbit, with her old, depressed mate, Roger Rabbit, still reluctantly by her side. As her story progresses, the scene shifts around town (I’d say around the world, but everyone seems to have British accents) with an unbelievable amount of other famous toons making appearances. Seriously, this video has everyone. But like the situations encountered by actual retired athletes, life after cartoon fame is a slow, painful march toward the big eraser in the sky.

From video game heroes, to TV super-villains, to anthropomorphic animals and characters beloved by children, everyone is now working for a living in their remaining years. Popeye’s once intimidating forearms are nothing but flab, Skeletor works at a typical office call center, and Garfield needs a forklift to pick up his fat cat ass.

Sure, it’s not all welfare checks and unemployment lines – He-Man and Man-At-Arms seem posh and pleased – but for the most part everyone lives menial lives, while still honoring their past alliances and rivalries.

If you have the ability to guffaw at gloominess, then this is surely the video for you. Otherwise, these five minutes might make you put a gun to your head and pull the trigger until the little flag pops out and says ‘BANG!”
