TONY SIRICO LANDS RECURRING FOR ‘FAMILY GUY'(@familyguyonFOX) AND LEAD FOR NEW @ADULTSWIM ANIMATED SERIES
You guys may know him best from The Sopranos but I will always remember Tony Sirico as Tony Stacks in the brilliant gangster-film Goodfellas. Its weird, I’ve seen just about EVERY gangster film, but for whatever reason Sopranos never did it for me despite the fact that I am born and raised in NJ. That said, Tony Sirico is set to lend his vocal talents in TWO new roles according to a new article from Deadline.com.
First, Tony Sirico is set to star as a new reoccurring character on Family Guy playing new dog “Vinnie” which according to the article is a “pooch with attitude and possible criminal ties that the Griffins buy from a pet shop”. Also, it is said that Tony will actually be helping sing the Family Guy theme song with Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the voice cast. One of my personal favorite episodes of Family Guy ever was an episode entitled “New Brian” where the great John Viener played a new dog opposite Brian that led to Brian leaving the house, only to come back to Stewie’s “foul play”. That said, it will be interesting to see how ‘Vinnie’ will fit in with the Griffins and if there is enough room on Spooner Street for TWO dogs.
Now, since we are the #1 Authority in all things Adult Swim, we’d be re-missed if we didn’t mention the fact that Tony has also landed lead role in the previously announced new animated series Colonel Wallace set to debut on Adult Swim sometime in the near future. For those that don’t remember, Colonel Wallace follows an eccentric Southern fried-chicken magnate. And yes, now I want chicken.
So, whatya think?? Do you guys think Tony Sirico can add value to Family Guy and/or can he help lead a new animated series on Adult Swim??
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
