The Lawnmower Man is returning as an episodic VR series

Anyone remember the Sega Genesis game?

A VR film company is rebooting the movie that hilariously tried to make kids fear the hell out of virtual reality. VR-production company, Jaunt announced that it’s developing a new series based on the 1992 cult classic, only viewable with a virtual reality headset.

The original film was somewhat a dark & twisted version of Flowers for Algernon and focused on a scientist named Dr. Angelo who uses a combination of virtual reality and experimental medication to help an intellectually disabled gardener Jobe.

According to an article from Tech Radar, the people who currently hold the film rights stated:

“The original movie was a film of unsurpassed imagination and creativity with its ground-breaking use of VR back in 1992,” rights holder Jim Howell said. “Together with Jaunt we look forward to a contemporary team bringing to life a whole new world of VR.”

During its theatrical run, it was at first marketed as a Stephen King adaptation because it borrowed one of his short-stories but later on script writers altered that short story so much that King not only wanted nothing to do with it, but successfully sued to have his name removed in all future releases which included the shitty sequel in 1996.
