South Park News: UK Premiere Dated ; Lawsuit

You’re so fine!

You may recall when Barack Obama was the President, South Park used to use a take on the hit song “Mickey” by Toni Basil but with a paradoxical line consisting of “Obama, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Obama, hey Obama.”

Welp, Toni wants to get paid now, so she’s going to South Park, and anyone else that has used that song including Disney, Forever 21, Viacom (reppin’ South Park and VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race in separate claims) and even the company that licenses her song for commercial use R&T. According to Deadline, she wants $750 a spin claiming it violates a bunch of her rights as a musician that is licensing her music.

Our Take

The producers of South Park took it one step further by doing a full on parody of Toni, which she’s not going to get any money for (1st amendment). The Forever 21/Disney or the RuPaul accusations I know nothing about, but for my money, the most prevalent use of the song was in the 1992 film Wayne’s World when Wayne and his lady are singing that song in their car on the first date.

South Park’s 21st Season just got a UK premiere date of Friday, September 15th at 10pm on Comedy Central UK to go along with the US premiere date that also has a teaser that you can see here.
