Shorts Review: RWBY – Volume 4, World of Remnant’s 2 and 3: Mistral & Atlas

Qrow Once again delves into two more territories within the world of Remnant. This time with Mistral and Atlas.

Qrow explains that Mistral is the “2nd largest landmass” of Remnant which is sometimes infamous for being a black market criminal paradise of sorts in their universe.

This episode kinda topped itself compared to Vale, Mistral has more things going on in their Kingdom. On the outside, Mistral is artistic & pretty due to its variety of cultures, ecosystems, and lifestyle, but on the inside there’s trouble. The Kingdom seems to be only ‘good’ you’re living in the capital, born into a wealth, or both. The unlucky ones have to put up with black markets, rampant crime committed by shady folks because the government is only limited to the capital. I can see why Cinder considered Mistral to be an undeniable place to find Scoundrels like Torchwick & Neo. 😛

Just picturing Pyrrha, Neptune, Sage and Scarlet growing up in this vibrant and cultural and beautiful place is making me so emotional. I love mistral so much already despite it being a “Tortuga” of sorts.

The 2nd Video delves into the Military Nation Atlas which is Weiss, Winter and General Ironwood’s homeland and where Penny was created.

It’s abundantly clear that Atlas is very reminiscent of the USSR. They are both industrial powerhouses that replaced the old regime. Both have the motif of cold harsh winters, large industry with many factories, obsessed with scientific research and development, and determined to be the world’s #1 military superpower.

The part that gets me is, look at the man on the right of General Ironwood, I take it this is the CEO of the Schnee Industries as well as father to Weiss & Winter.

From the way Qrow says it kind of just implies a natural progression as the settlement around the academy grew from a military/industrial zone to a full on city, with relocating the capital seeming more like a change of brand name than anything else. more like succession than anything shady (which, depending on how the great war went, might be in the kingdom’s favour; ‘Atlas’, named after the newly reopened and rechristened combat academy, would not hold the same negative connotations that Mantle may have had, especially given in this WoR it seems that Mantle was driving the arms race due to access to greater Dust based tech; Atlas is ‘new’, it’s a fresh start – even if they did pick up a sour reputation later due to the military bias due to the Kingdom’s military and government involvement with the school).

Damn these videos are going fast and even before the Vol.4 due-date October 22nd. 🙂
