Shorts Review: RWBY Chibi “Magic Show”

This episode was 3 mins and 56 seconds long with zero promo ads.

Spoilers Below:

“Magic Show”

Jaune puts on a magic show with Ruby as his assistant, but Ruby keeps upstaging him. He challenges her to a magic-off, and the two compete on stage. Jaune pulls a coin from Sun’s ear, while Ruby pulls a blank check from Yang’s. To combat that, Jaune pulls a rabbit from his hat, but ends up pulling out Velvet. Ruby concedes, and the magic show ends with Velvet angrily hitting Jaune.

Score:

4/10

“Find a Penny”

Pyrrha finds a penny on the ground, and picks it up. She happily shows it to Jaune, saying that a found penny is good luck. Ruby walks by, saying she’s way ahead of that, as she carries Penny over her shoulder.

Score:

5/10

“Kick Off”

Ruby, Yang, Jaune, Blake, and Weiss face off against Roman, Cinder, Neo, Mercury, and Emerald in a soccer game. Nora prepares the kickoff, and Mercury takes it. He lands the first kick, but the weapons in his shoes go off, deflating the ball. Nora says that since there’s only one ball, the match ends in a draw. Both sides leave disappointed.

Score

4/10

For once, the title short ended up being the lowest rated. Magic Show isn’t particularly funny, but it is more so than the shorts we’ve been shown this season. While it’s nice to see Ruby and Jaune competing, Ruby insulting Jaune’s talent seems a reversal of her normal characterization. Overall, Find a Penny gets the highest rating, even if it’s short, but because it’s a clever word joke.

RWBY Chibi is still not good, but this episode is definitely better than the other two.
