“Shiny Badge”

Mercury tries shining his badge, but no matter how hard he works, he can’t get it clean. On the other hand, Sun’s is shining brightly. Mercury asks how Sun manages, and as he groans, the trick is revealed: Sun smears peanut butter over his badge, and Zwei licks off the peanut butter, cleaning the badge.

“Geist Buster”

Roman and Neo unveils their new plan: a Geist Grimm with the ability to possess inanimate objects. He tells it to go spread chaos and defeat its enemies, and it quickly goes after the main cast. First, it possesses Blake’s bookcase and spits books out at her. When Weiss and Yang come to help, the confusion ends up sending a bunk bed falling on top of them. Roman is thrilled that it managed to work.

The Grimm seeks out Ruby next and possesses a stack of pancakes that Ren recently finished making. It attacks Ruby and Ren and knocks them both out. Roman says that he manages to defeat them, but before he can celebrate for long, a hungry Nora appears. She eats all the pancakes, including the Grimm, and Ruby praises her for saving the day.

5/10

So far, RWBY Chibi isn’t very impressive. It’s comedic and slapstick instead of serious, but it still lacks humor. It seems to be going more for cute than have comedy, but neither seems to be working. Geist Buster and Director Ozpin, the two title shorts, are stronger than the rest, but still not strong enough. The best shorts seem to be direct parodies of the series itself, rather than slice-of-life attempts at comedy. Hopefully, there will be more of those for the rest of the season.
