Shorts Review: Red vs. Blue Season 12 Episode 17

Everything leads up to this week’s episode of Red vs. Blue! This roller coaster finally starts the downhill run towards the end of the line, and we got the review!

If the second half of Red vs. Blue’s 12th season were a table, the table would have been set up five times over. I’m not sure how many more episodes I can take of people standing around, trying to figure out what to do next. I understand that they want to build to a final battle, but there doesn’t need to be five episodes of just talking and trying to figure out what to do.

Here’s the thing, though. Each party has their plan, and they keep telling the viewer what their plan is. That’s all well and good, but what happens when they put that plan into action? We don’t know, because NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING! Well, that changed tonight with about two minutes left in the episode, when the Federal Army finally walked into a trap. The driving scenes looked pretty solid. The suspension of belief played a role, because I was not sure if the scene with Kimball driving through the city on a Warthog was CG or not. It looked pretty nice.

However, what of the proposition from Felix? Well, the Reds and Blues are listening to the proposition from Felix and Locus, trying to figure out what the best course of action is. Again, the Reds and Blues have to spend an episode trying to figure out how to handle this. The most intriguing scenario that Carolina, Church and Wash came up with was that they stay on Corus, but the rest leave. We know by now that everyone is going to stay, so there’s really no reason to dick around thinking otherwise.

This has all of the trappings of being the final battle, because the fighting between the Federal and Republic armies seem to be ready to strike at any moment. Of course, Kimball and her army walk right into a trap, and are now scurrying around like insects trying to get out. Every access point is blocked, so that’s going to be a little difficult.

The problem, however, is there was nothing going on. The rebels finally make it into the Capital, but are almost immediately captured. Then, the Reds and Blues are just standing around with their dicks in their hands. It was fairly disappointing to have almost the same exact episode twice in a row. We could have just taken the fights from this week, and edit them into Episode 16.

With two episodes left after this week, Red vs.Blue needs to step the fight up, because it’s a lot of plot and loose ends to tie up before the season wraps. I am not digging how this has progressed from episode 13 until now, because any progression has come to a screeching halt. This season had a lot of promise coming out of the gates, but ultimately, this latter half is making this season fall short. Hopefully, this battle is something fierce so the season can be righted. Otherwise, the season can be written off as mediocre, at best.
