Shorts Review: Gravity Falls – Fixin’ It With Soos: Golf Cart

Spoilers Below

Gravity Falls is one of those shows that loves to tease you. The first season ended way back in August yet here we are with a third installment of shorts. Hopefully these will segue into the second season. I can’t wait any longer!

Ahem.

The first episode of the new shorts is Fixin’ It With Soos: Golf Cart. Soos has gone and got himself a web show. In the show, he randomly “fixes” things. His fixes include adding keyboards to a dresser to make KEYBOARD DRAWERS! or putting fried chicken into a spice rack to make a CHICKEN HOLDER! or hanging a toilet from the ceiling to get ZERO G’S! And that is just the opening theme song.

Dipper and Wendy have broken the golf cart by trying to jump it over a car. They come to Soos to fix it. After some required green screen additions so he can call down his power, Soos heads out to fix the golf cart. Soos tells the audience that Dipper and Wendy will need to rate his work according to the Awesomeometer. Dipper quickly agrees to give Soos a 10 before asking if he looks cool in his auto mechanic jumpsuit. But not even Soos can fix that. Somehow, despite his apparent ineptitude, he actually fixes the cart. Bring forth more green screen awesomeness!

Soos admits that the show is not over yet. There needs to be more awesome in the golf cart. After a few cut screens of Soos’ head rolling around, he pulls off the sheet covering the new upgrades to the cart. Now it is painted awesome colors, has a new ship’s wheel for a steering wheel, some car spoilers on the roof, and a new set of tailpipes. It even includes some epic airbrushed paintings on the rear panel.

The three friends zoom off to once more try to jump the golf cart over the car. When Dipper realizes that they are not going fast enough to make the jump, Soos unveils the nitro addition. He slams the button in the middle of the ship/steering wheel and the cart takes off. It easily clears the car and both Wendy and Dipper rate Soos’s work a “10 out of 10.”

Unfortunately, they crash right into the roof of the Mystery Shack. Grunkle Stan comes out to tell Soos that the roof is broken and asks him to fix it. Soos gives a thumbs up to the camera while telling us that he makes his own work.

While this short episode just aired in the United States on April 21, it first aired on Disney Channel Russia back on February 1. This is also the first episode that omits Mabel entirely. That said, this was definitely a cute short. Soos is always a hysterical character so it was nice to have him be the featured character instead of forcing him into the background. I actually think this would make an awesome stand-alone web series. Wouldn’t it be great to give Soos a “Home Improvement” type web series where he fixes things but it isn’t always how you expect it? The episode was only two minutes long and it was the perfect length to keep it funny without going overboard. There will be another episode tomorrow night. I can’t wait to see what Soos does next!
