Season One Review: Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane

Despite the fact that this series aired late last year on Australian television, we Americans are only JUST discovering Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane as it debuted on Seeso, the new streaming service from NBC Universal, and I gotta say, the show is pretty bad ass.

The show’s titular characters include struggling attorney Sammy J. whom is six years into his legal career, but has never won a case for his firm ran by resident scumbag Borkman played by Nathan Lovejoy. At home, Sammy has to not only fight to keep a house over HIS head, but his resident couch loafer Randy. Randy spends most of his time at home trying to win back the affection of his ex wife Victoria Vincent whom wants nothing to do with him and is too busy getting nuts with Borkman.

At work, Sammy J is the laughing stock of the firm to everyone except the secretary Wednesday whom does everything she can to bang out Sammy much to his oblivion. Dotted through each episode are fun as hell and well-written songs that showcases the series as more of a Broadway play broken up into six parts.

You would think with jokes and sensibilities that are produced by Australian writers, that us Americans wouldn’t understand a lot of the subject matter coming from Sammy J and Randy. Fortunately, this isn’t the case, as everyone can certainly relate to having a shit job that they don’t want to be at. So, jump on to Seeso and binge watch Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane, and I guarantee you’ll be humming that awfully catchy opening jingle in no time.
