Elizabeth Banks, best known for her Teen Choice Animated Award nominated role as “Rita Repulsa” in the 2017 Power Rangers film, has been tapped the play the role of a burlesque dancer in the upcoming feature-length film The Happytime Murders which already features stars Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy.

The film is set in the L.A. underbelly where puppets and humans co-exist and centers on clashing detectives — one human (McCarthy) and the other a puppet — who are forced to work together to solve the mystery of who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show.

The Happytime Murders is set to hit theaters August 17, 2018, via STX Entertainment.

Our Take

Ms. Banks is a solid pickup for the Henson Alternative production. The cast is filling out nicely, and I think a lot of people are rooting for this one to do well enough to warrant more puppet movies similar to this.
