RIP Pepe the Frog
This gets put to bed…literally.
This past weekend, cartoonist Matt Furie won the rights back to his creation, Pepe the Frog, even if that doesn’t mean anything in the legal sense.
For those that don’t know, Pepe the Frog was at one point part of Furie’s cast of stoner friends in the Boys Club strip that used to be on MySpace. Unfortunately, alt-right fuckers would destroy the intent of the cartoon and use it as a sort of mascot to spread a message of hate. To counter, Matt Furie decided to take matters into his own hands and posted on Tumblr the official funeral of his creation.
Our Take
Personally, I would’ve taken the legal approach to the cartoon. When Matt posted his own work on MySpace, he became the copyright holder for the cartoon. What I would’ve done is sued the pants off the KKK, and anyone else that attempted to use my character for improper use.

Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
