Review: Your Dungeon, My Dragon “Pilot”

Are you guys missing out on Code Monkeys? Well, so am I…but thankfully Adam de La Pena is back with an all-new series called Your Dungeon, My Dragon. After the jump see how it stacks up to its predecessor.

 Spoilers Below

You know the show’s gonna be good when your first scene featuring a character named “Devious” is somehow a cross between a Warlock and Dracula, yet he comes out to a disco-themed entrance that would even make Vince Mcmahon jealous. This would be weird, if it weren’t for the fact that his audience consists of a Zonkey(half zombie half donkey)  and a walking talking skeleton. Their goal? To take down Earth’s Guardians! This Devious guy, isn’t one to be fucked with either, a fan of both auto-tuned vocals and Guitar Hero he’s on top of his shit except when he’s looking for his plans for taking down Earth which was supposed to be a topic of debate during the meeting of the Coven of Evil. Instead, he comes up with a lame scheme with no real battle plan for their upcoming fight with Earth’s heroes.

On the other hand we are introduced to “Kill the Barbarian” an Arnold Schwarzenegger inspired guy who seems to have taken one too many blows to the head, and some(what looks to be naked) lady named Amy the Enchantress who calls to order a meeting of the Guardians in some random forest. Hort the Nomad and his best friend Haro join them and whilst planning their next move are attacked by the Coven of Evil!

I fucking loved Code Monkeys, and it was certainly one of my favorite animated shows for a while, and as such am bewildered by the fact that despite the show bringing in about 20 million viewers it is somehow unable to find a network? Having said that, here we are with “Your Dungeon, My Dragon” a new show that according to Adam is a 16-bit animated comedy(as opposed to the 8-bit that was Code Monkeys) that is here to help us cope, and I’m pleased to report it does! What I loved most about the show is that Adam very well could have copied and pasted what he did for Code Monkeys and put a new name on it. But, instead he makes an entirely different show from the ground up and to be honest I actually think the characters in this show may be funnier and more crass.  Example, Devious, how are we supposed to take him serious as a bad guy? He really is about as good at his job at being a Demon Overlord as Michael Scott was at being a manager as he exhibits a lot of Scott’s shortcomings and jokes that made “The Office” for so many years…just add bat wings.
