English Dub Review: Yona of the Dawn “To a New Land”

“To a New Land” marks the beginning of the search for a new Dragon Warrior. I’m pretty sure you can guess which one if you’ve watched the opening. Anyway, their trip leads them back towards the Crimson Dragon territory. That’s a slight problem, especially with Su-On roaming the country, meeting with General Geun-Te. The funniest thing about Su-On is that he’s playing it really cool. Luckily, Geun-Te is starting to see past Su-On’s title. Su-On’s interactions with Geun-Te is really something to behold.

Seeing as though Su-On is finally through the countryside, Yona and her people are set aside for a while. In fact, after the beginning five minutes, they aren’t heard from again. I never have a problem with expansion of the story, and this is no different. Seeing as though none of the first season is dubbed, and no plans have been released about it, I haven’t taken much of a look outside to see major events. It seems like Su-On is just putting on a front to his people. But, again, Geun-Te is finally starting to see the crap Su-On is throwing.

“To a New Land” is going to set up what is seemingly going to be the next couple of episodes, because Su-On and Geun-Te’s people want to seen Geun-Te on the battlefield again. So, since fighting is outlawed, what is there to do? Well, Su-On proposes a mock battle. The only thing I can say here is that this is how a lead-in episode is supposed to be done. It expands what the story has been so far, and gives us something to look forward to in later episodes.

Yona of the Dawn has been getting better, from episode to episode, and “To a New Land” is no exception. Finally introducing Su-On and Geun-Te to season two gives us and update on what has been going on since the Su-On murdered Yona’s dad, and forced her into exile. I think one of the only problems with Yona of the Dawn is that there was nothing said of the home kingdom since season two began. “To a New Land” successfully solved that problem, and gave us more insight into what kind of person Su-On is letting people think he is. Here’s to a pretty great episode!
