Review: We Bare Bears “Losing Ice”

Spoilers Below

Ice Bear isn’t feeling the appreciation on his cooking skills from his brothers so he decides to mosey down the street and get a new job as a hibachi chef. Grizz and Pan-Pan aren’t exactly thrilled with getting ditched by their brother, so they post an online ad for a new brother to move in and take Ice Bear’s place. Unfortunately, this guy Larry isn’t a bear, so he can’t do bear things, but Panda and Grizz try to make their brother jealous anyway. After a while, Larry doesn’t work out as the new brother, but he’s instrumental in making sure the bears all become friends again.

Our Take

I couldn’t imagine this show without Ice Bear, but the thing I found most impressive about this episode is that even with few words, the producers make it look obvious that Ice Bear is upset or hurt and it makes you feel for the guy that much more. You really just wanna reach in the TV and give Ice Bear a hug the second he throws away the dinner he worked so hard to prepare for his brothers.

And yet, I actually thought that was the part lacking as well. We spent more time dealing with Grizz and Pan-Pan looking for a replacement and I think I would’ve liked to have seen more of (if any) Ice Bear’s qualms about not being around his bros anymore. You kinda saw it at the end in the airport scene, and anyone’s heart that didn’t break when you see Ice Bear all by himself in the restaurant is clearly proof that that person is not human. Still though, “Losing Ice” was very good, and should be required viewing.
