Review: We Bare Bears “Kyle”

Different Kyle.

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode is primarily focused on Nom-Nom (Voiced by Patton Oswalt) the egocentric Koala “Internet Sensation” who laments during a talk show interview about not knowing much about his family growing up, Only for a Koala calling him on the show with the claim that he’s his long lost brother named “Kyle” with his only evidence to back-up this claim is that he has large black eyebrows like one of the Koala Cubs in his only family photograph.

The episode is a bit cliche & predictable with its twist but it shows a human side to a douchey character we often never see due to him always being seen from Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear’s perspective as an overly rich jerk but Nom-Nom eventually learns who his real friends are and ends up asking his bodyguard a personal question that further solidifies their bond.

Our Take

This was a unique episode as it had zero-focus on the titular bears and showed Nom-Nom’s softer side with a level of complexity and a hint of sadness that we rarely see in antagonistic characters. If there’s anything I’ve taken from this episode, it’s that sometimes, it’s the people who never give up on you no matter how much of a jerk you are to them that end up becoming more family to you than people who claim to be.
