Review: We Bare Bears “Dance Lessons”

Let’s dance!

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below.)

Panda volunteers to be Lucy’s partner for a dance contest, but Panda doesn’t have the heart to tell Lucy that she’s a terrible dancer.

Much of this episode delves into the personal insecurities of Panda as he demonstrates that he’s just as terrible at dancing as Lucy, but Lucy’s motivation was primarily to win the prize money and a new delivery truck.

When the contest begins, Panda ends up inadvertently hurting Lucy’s feelings while faking a leg injury to get himself out of it which understandably upsets her for not being honest and direct about it. Eventually, Panda Redeems himself when he comes to the event to Dance with her and finds the right words to a song his Brothers help him complete that he was working on earlier which eventually leads to both an entertainingly funny & unexpected ending for both Panda and Lucy.

Our Take.

If there’s anything this show has excelled at, it’s giving its own characters quirks and flaws that the audience can easily connect with on a personal level. Granted it was slightly flawed for how predictably cliche it was in parts such as the specific way Lucy gets a “Truth Bomb” dropped on her about her dancing which mirrors those “third act misunderstanding” scenes you see in romantic comedies that solely exist to envoke forced drama and to stretch the running time. It would’ve been a much shorter episode if Panda was straight-up honest. The ending thankfully redeemed Panda and it was great to see Grizz and Ice Bear show actual support for their brother despite teasing him about the situation earlier like Frat Boys.
