Review: We Bare Bears “Bunnies”

Pet the bunny.

Overview(Possible Spoilers Below)

The baby bears head to a chocolate festival in Denver Colorado. During their journey, they encounter helpless Bunnies being attacked by a large crow and are hailed heroes after scaring it off. The bunnies, as a thank you, give them a place to stay much to Panda’s impatience and apprehension. The next day as they’re about to leave, the bunnies warn Grizz (who can understand Bunny Language apparently) that the same crow they stopped is coming back with more of its flock.

In response to this, Grizz & Ice Bear choose to stay & protect the bunnies while Panda selfishly ditches them believing that he has no obligation to help the bunnies to begin with. As Grizz & Ice Bear work on a makeshift scarecrow, Panda eventually has a change of heart when he attempts to hitchhike and comes across some people who also happen to be on their way to the same festival. They make an off the cuff remark about ditching their 4th brother because chocolate is “more important than family” which begins to weigh heavily on Panda’s conscience and returns with a solution to stop the crows when Grizz & Ice Bear’s plan doesn’t last. Without giving too much away about what Panda does, felt like a decent parody to classic mech anime that has to be seen to be believed. The episode happily ends when the cubs teach the bunnies how to build scarecrows and continue onward to their journey to the chocolate festival in Denver.

Our Take

Primarily this was a Panda-focused episode. While you can understand the cold, selfish logic behind why Panda would ditch them at first, It mostly helped that those 3 strangers indirectly admonished him of this terrible mindset and reminded him not to become the very people who abandoned him and his brothers at a young age.
