Review: The Amazing World Of Gumball “The Worst”

You’re the worst.

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

The episode starts off with the Waterson family coming back from what they all respectively presume to be their “Worst Day Ever” for them while serving as a framing device for each of them to talk about how bad they got it which involves everything from Nicole’s sexist work environment, Richard being an idiot at a supermarket, Gumball & Darwin being the subject of jokes for their choice in Bodywash, etc. But they all decide to switch parental, gender and child roles to see how bad they got it in another person’s proverbial shoes for one day.

If I had any minor complaints it’s that you’d think the adults (or Nicole particularly) would have more wisdom, patience or understanding on what it was like for them to be kids but the jokes were consistently funny while nailing the stereotypes about gender roles such as men being “incapable of asking for help” middle-aged people being “devoid of imagination”, women getting the shit-end of the stick at the workplace, etc. The episode ends abruptly when Nicole tries to point out the sexist problem of women being interrupted mid-sentence only for it to stop in the middle of her speech like an episode of The Sopranos.

Our Take

This was easily one of the funnier episodes I’ve covered so far as it not only delved into topical issues like women getting the shit-end of the stick when it comes employment to how brutally un-fun going to school is for certain kids when you’re in a tightly constricted schedule but all of it is handled in a comedically exaggerated fashion.
