Review: Squidbillies “Dove In An Iron Cage”

Pump that iron.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Someone killed Boyd and the Sheriff’s department is on the case. Boyd’s wife comes up with a description that could fit the bill for either Rusty or Early, but both Rusty and Sheriff have an alibi leading to Rusty being forced to sign a confession. A couple of months later, Early and Granny try to represent Rusty at the court hearing only for it to go terribly wrong which means Rusty is sentenced to death on murder charges. On the day of Rusty’s execution, the Squid escapes like a pro utilizing relationships he had made while on the inside along with a mountain of BLT’s as per his final meal request.

Instead of making a break for it, Rusty opts to return to his cell where he finds out that he’s out due to the department not having any evidence and the Squids being wrongfully accused by someone close to Boyd.

Our Take

Squidbillies Season 11 starts off with one hell of a good time. Rusty’s montage was excellent, and who didn’t love the cameo appearances from that “other” Adult Swim show about jail during the hilariously well-done prison fight scene. Quite frankly, I would’ve liked to have seen this prison bit last a bit longer and maybe last the whole season, but alas, this appears not to be the case. Regardless, the Steven Earle brush over the course of the 22-minute episode helped accentuate the country-music infused series in a multitude of ways that show the producers of this show are some of the best out there.

Squidbillies has been going hard for 10 seasons, and if we’re getting episodes this good at this juncture of the show’s run, then the next 10 seasons shouldn’t be a problem.
