Review: Simpsons Comics Compendium Vol. 2

simpsonscompendium

I do believe the Simpsons Comics Compendium installations serve a purpose. Anyone that doesn’t have the wherewithal to collect comics every month, or worse, if you don’t actually have a decent comic book store nearby, this collection could be a great way to catch up! The important thing that Bongo did this time around as opposed to Vol.1 was that I think the variety of stories/characters in the book far surpasses its predecessor which certainly makes for a great buy.

The obvious foundation of anything Simpsons is the sheer number of characters that can be played with and this issue exercises a lot of that. You definitely get your standard Simpsons plays here like your protagonists coming up with get-rich-quick schemes featuring Homer trying to start a business around selling home-made honey and Moe attempting to combine donuts and beer. We also get your standard-variety ‘Homer is a lovable oaf’ stories like when he screws up at the power plant and still saves the day.

My favorite part of the collection are all of the superhero stories. Give me Bartman, Radioactive Man, Clobber Girl with Stretch Dude, hell even Homer and Kent Brockman get into the superhero biz which is great because you just don’t see this shit anywhere else,  not even on TV. Top off the issue with a bunch of Itchy and Scratchy one-sheets, and you’ve got yourself a winner.
