Review: RWBY Chibi “Girls Rock”

This episode was 3 mins and 25 seconds long with zero promo ads.

Spoilers Below:

“Fearless Hero”

Roman, Neo, Mercury, and Emerald corner Velvet when Jaune, dressed as a superhero, appears, with his sidekick Zwei. The group of bad guys isn’t impressed, but when Emerald and Mercury point out the flaws in Jaune’s costume, he bats them away. Roman and Neo retreat and Jaune compliments himself on a job well done. He says he’s not afraid of anything, but when he hears the girls complaining about their stolen weapons, he books a hasty retreat.

Score:

4/10

“Whistle”

Zwei isn’t behaving, and the girls have had enough. Ruby decides to use the last resort: a dog whistle. The whistle startles Zwei, but also startles Blake and Velvet, who barge in and threaten Ruby to never use it again.

Score:

5/10

“Girls Rock”

Nora barges into the main girls’ room, announcing that there’s going to be a battle of the bands at school. Yang and Nora are excited to start their own rock band, and the five of them join up to compete. As they start to practice, with Yang on lead vocals, Taiyang joins in, asking Yang to pose. Yang is embarrassed, but Taiyang still keeps it up.

Score

3/10

These shorts didn’t make me personally laugh, but they’re a lot more charming than those in earlier episodes. These are more lighthearted and fun and are not trying too hard. This episode is another example of the shortest segment being the best of the bunch, and the title segment being the weakest. While RWBY Chibi still has ways to go, this episode might be a fun way to pass the time.

Fearless Hero unexpectedly hit a little hard, since it is a Batman parody, and Adam West passed today.
