Review: Regular Show “Park Managers Lunch”

Benson goes to a special lunch. But why are the guys on edge? Find out after the jump!

Spoilers!

Seeing as though this is my first review of Regular Show in a long while, and this has nothing to do with the ongoing story. Thank god for stand-alone episodes! This week, Benson is asked out to lunch by rival park manager, Gene. Of course, the crew all think there’s something behind it, because Gene has a heated rivalry with Benson and the Park.

“Park Managers Lunch” managed to actually put Gene in a different role, instead of the obsessed, pranking, rival that he has been in past episodes. Making him the leader of a Skulls like club is really funny, because who would think that there would be a club, just for park managers? Hell, I can dig it, even though it’s probably a one-of thing.

The guys were actually on point as well, doing exactly what they set out to do. It doesn’t happen often, and seeing it to save their boss is rather refreshing. It’s not a complete departure, because Rigby is still driven by his stomach. I think that having a Benson-centric episode, but not having him carry the episode was a nice touch as well. It’s entirely too easy to keep the focus on camera, and feed him lines, but “Park Managers Lunch” actually had a bit of finesse.

The actual animation was a little off, this week. It could have been the conversion to my display, but it looked really weird when Benson arrived, and it looked like a sheet of paper just sliding across the screen, as opposed to a car rolling. The van that Mordecai and crew rolled up in was done better. A few seconds later, I found it odd that Benson, Gene, and the other park managers all shook hands with their left arms, but this isn’t real life. This is just fantasy.

As a whole, I really dug “Park Managers Lunch.” Aside from that little bit of wonky animation, everything was pretty much on point. You can check out the episode for yourself, right here!
