Review: Regular Show “Alpha Dome”

Who is the Beta?

Spoilers Below

Benson and his crew head to an Alpha Dome on orders of Colonel Rawls. When they get there, we find a park set in the 1600s run by Steve. Mordecai, Rigby, and Skips do some investigating, and we learn that Steve was able to find refuge as the Alpha Dome was sent through a time vortex that turned a whole ship’s crew to that of pilgrims. With Steve safe, he was able to assume command, and lead the small town. Mordecai tells Benson what happened, and his crew decides to nudge the Alpha Dome back through the time vortex so that the crew will go back to normal. Steve tries to stop Rigs, Mordy, and Skips, but Skips is able to make the save and all four are able to find refuge that would make them safe from any changes, and voila…the towns people become beings of light. It’s not all bad, Steve is handcuffed, and we have new coordinates for the next mission.

Our Take

Yea, this one was kind of all over the place in terms of plot, but overall I actually enjoyed myself. The Alpha Dome was pretty cool, but I was expecting more jokes with the Amish people here, but then again, maybe we’ve heard them all before. The producers of Regular Show are trying new sci-fi things that have good sensible backing behind them, and it makes for an experience that maybe is a bit more grounded than other sci-fi cartoons, but without losing sight that Mordecai and Rigby are here and need to be accounted for.
