Review: Red vs Blue “Grif Does a Rescue”

Just as planned?

Spoilers Below:

Temple calls Sarge in for a meeting. He says his plan is about to proceed, now that the machine’s finished. Temple asks how Sarge is doing, and Sarge said he’s not too pleased. Temple promotes Sarge to Super-Colonel but is interrupted by Serge announcing that there’s an intruder.

The intruder turns out to be Grif, who’s walking in mindless circles around the base. He’s easily captured and thrown into confinement with the rest of the team. He apologizes to everyone, cutting off Temple’s gloating. In return, Temple reveals, to hurt Caboose, that Church is truly dead. The recording that was sent out is an edited version of a transmission from Blood Gulch days– and that Church is definitively dead. Caboose goes quiet, and Tucker swears that he’ll kill Temple for sure. The Blues and Reds leave gloating.

Caboose processes the news, and Grif says that they’ll make them pay. When Tucker calls him out for doing nothing, Grif says he did his job– to make a diversion.

Back in stasis, Washington complains about how he needs to scratch his nose. He starts to drift off, and Carolina tries to keep him awake. Before he can fully drift off, Locus appears. The two agents are completely taken aback.

Overview:

Grif is lazy by nature, but he’s determined to set things right. The first thing he does is apologize, even if it’s inappropriate for the situation because it’s something he’s needed to say. He also knows his limits– he’d be unable to pull a rescue by himself, so he allows himself to be a distraction for Locus to sneak in.

We finally find out that Church isn’t around anymore. Temple used a modified recording to lure the Reds and Blues in and succeeded on that front. It would be interesting to see how a story plays out with Church staying dead, and the team having to move on without him. Caboose seems to be taking it the worst, but hopefully, we’ll see if Church’s death stays true or not.
