Review: Red vs Blue “Desolation”

Temple’s plan revealed.

Spoilers Below:

The team dispatches the grunts, but Washington is in critical condition. Locus leaves with Washington for the nearest hospital and refuses to let Tucker on board.

Andrews sends the plans of Temple’s machine back but they don’t take it seriously. They say it’s nonsense– it’s a laser drill that takes an absurd amount of energy to function. Meanwhile, the team debates what they should do next since they don’t know anything about the plan, except that Temple plans to go to Earth. Tucker goes off alone to think.

By reviewing Jax’s tapes, they find footage of a room covered in charts, showing a target in the Indian Ocean. Andrews reluctantly brings out Vic, who she manages to persuade to spill information about the Blues and Reds. Vic says that the Blues and Reds’ target is to aim for the UNSC’s Earth HQ, except it’s equipped with enough to withstand an alien invasion. Carolina points out that the Blues and Reds are so unpredictable because they’re so stupid, so they wouldn’t have a conventional plan. Carolina asks Sarge what he would do, and Sarge responds that he’d tunnel under the enemies’ feet for a sneak attack.

Indeed, that’s Temple’s plan; to drill a hole through the core of the earth to blast the UNSC headquarters from the other side of the planet.

Grif goes to get Tucker. Tucker admits he has his doubts since he’s no good at the hero stuff. He thinks he’s a liability, but Grif points out that the authorities will be no help. Grif says that they need Tucker, since he’s the best they got. Tucker says he will, as long as Grif tells them that he’s special. Pumped up, Tucker gives them all a pep talk; doing it for Washington and Church, but also because ‘Fuck those assholes’. They get ready to go to Earth.

Overview:

We finally find out what Temple’s plan is, and it’s ridiculous. Despite being diabolical versions of the main cast, they’re still just as absurd. Their plan is to drill clean through the planet because they have no chance at launching a frontal attack.

Tucker sits the episode out, largely because he’s suffered a blow to confidence. His impulsiveness got Washington hurt, and his desire to be praised let him be tricked by Temple. He also had his sword confiscated. Despite that, he is the best fitted for combat, and once he’s cheered up, he gives a really good pep talk.

Mostly setup this episode, but it was pretty nice.
