Review: Paw Patrol “All Star Pups!” & “Pups Save A Sports Day”

Was this episode an all-star or did it need saving?

Spoilers Below

In the first segment of this episode, the pups are scheduled to play against monkeys in a track and field day. Unfortunately, the field sprinklers were left on overnight, leaving the field too wet to use. As a result, the pups need to create a new place to play. A local farmer offers to let them use his sheep pasture. Rubble uses his construction rig to clear the pasture. However, while he is working, he realizes that it would be too difficult to built a track. Instead, everyone agrees to play kickball so he builds a kickball field. Marshall uses his paint cannons to paint the lines on the ballfield. Rocky uses some recycled items as bases.

While the monkeys and pups play kickball, an eagle flies in and steals the ball. Skye and Everest rush off to retrieve the ball. In her helicopter, Skye distracts the eagle while Everest, uses her grappling hook to haul herself up the mountain to get the ball out of the eagle’s nest. Once she reaches the nest, Everest finds a few baby eagles playing with it. Not wanting to leave the babies without a toy, Skye gives her toy mouse to the baby eagles. Returning to the kickball game with the very important kickball, Marshall kicks a homerun.

“All Star Pups!” wasn’t too bad but there were a few weird things. The monkeys had a bit of an advantage over the pups since they have hands and whatnot. What will the sheep do now that their pasture has been taken over by a kickball field? Why did Everest bring her vehicle to the mountain when her grappling hook was in her pup pack? These are the questions we should be asking our kids.

Next up was “Pups Save A Sports Day.” The pups are about to, once again, have a sports day. This time the track is in working condition. But Everest won’t be able to play her favorite game because she likes snowboarding and it’s summer. So Ryder decides they need to build her a half pipe. Once again, Rubble, Rocky, and Marshall do all of the hard work. Daring Danny X shows up to use the half pipe but it isn’t ready yet. He is too impatient to wait so he hooks Marshall’s snow cannon up to Rocky’s snow making machine and ends up covering the entire track in ice. Of course, this means everything is too slippery for summer sports. Thankfully, the pups improvise and turn all of their events into fun summer/winter sports.

This segment was a lot more fun than the first. The pups were competing against each other, so it didn’t seem unfair. Granted, it would be a little more difficult to keep snow around in the summer but I’ll let them get away with it. It made for a very fun episode.
