Review: Maria the Virgin Witch “Man is a Wolf to Man”

mtvw ep 8

Well, “Man is a Wolf to Man” was certainly an interesting episode. The linchpin to all of this was how truly sinister the church as become, and the depths they are willing to go just so Maria’s name and reputation take a huge hit. Maria takes a hit at almost every turn, because even Joseph seems wavered with all of the ill words spoken against Maria. This is something new, because everyone who had faith in Maria seemed to be unwavering. Even Anne’s grandmother repented before the word of god. I was not expecting that.

Not a lot happened, because Maria is still trying to recover from the Ezekiel bullet from last week. Otherwise, things are back to normal at Casa de Maria. Priapos and Artemis are still looking out for Maria, but Ezekiel is looking out for Maria in her own way. I think I am liking the arc that Ezekiel is showing, because she is becoming a dynamic character. I had her pegged for that annoying character that you want dead in the worst way, but for whatever reason, I am starting to like her. However, Joseph is slowly taking over as that annoying character. Why does someone not want Maria to interfere, even though she saved Joseph’s life countless times?

It kind of feels like there’s change just for the sake of change. Anne and her family rolled on Maria quickly, even though they have been one of Maria’s most staunch supporters. Why did they change? Anne’s grandmother doesn’t look like she’s doing very well, definitely not as well as she would be if she had the medicine from Maria. I can’t believe I am going to quote Harry Potter here, but here’s a quote from Dolores Umbridge, that kind of makes sense for how I feel after “Man is a Wolf to Man.”

“There again, progress for progress’s sake must be discouraged, for our tried and tested traditions often require no tinkering. A balance, then, between old and new, between permanence and change, between tradition and innovation because some changes will be for the better, while others will come, in the fullness of time, to be recognised as errors of judgement.”

Here’s the tl;dr version:
