BubbleCAN Review: Knuckleheads “Save the Zwizzes”

Look who is back to review the new season of Knuckleheads!

Spoilers Below

Last year a new show called Knuckleheads made it’s way onto the animation scene. While not nearly as big your Simpsons or Family Guy, the show was able to provide an alternative within the established adult animation genre. You won’t find many shows like Knuckleheads today. It’s style is unique, it has a rotating panel of characters as opposed to an established cast, and it tells stories that are very grounded as well as out of this world. This week they went with the latter.

Captain Cooper is one of the more polarizing characters on Knuckleheads. He’s egotistical and self-interested. He has little regard for those around him and will put others into harm’s way with no hesitation if it gets him ahead even slightly. But we still like him. I mean, we may not like him as a person, but you always feel his presence on screen, he demands your attention and we give it to him. In this episode we see him called upon as a hero to save an alien king. Even when placed in the most heroic of positions, it’s really only because he wants one-hundred million dollars.

I wish there were a character in this episode that could contrast Captain Cooper a little better. Those put around him are merely punching bags for Cooper. It’s rare that we see him challenged or opposed in an interesting way. When he’s rejected by women, it’s entertaining to see how he reacts. I like to see him in situations that challenge him because it usually creates a hilarious moment.

The supporting characters in this episode are kind of forgettable. Besides the Krads, I don’t think I’ll be able to remember Zwizzes or the airport crew that assist Cooper. They appeared to be there to point Cooper in the right direction, which is fine, whatever gets the story rolling. While the characters weren’t that memorable, they were definitely fun. The banter between the characters is something I’ve loved about the show. Zany characters being thrown into crazy situations and then letting them bounce dialogue off of one another. It isn’t Shakespeare, but it’s a great way to kill a half hour.

Overall, I think this was a great start to this next chapter of Knuckleheads. I liked that they started big and threw us into space. It sets an expectation for things to come. There will more than likely be grounded episodes, but when something out of this world happens, we’ll know there isn’t any limit Knuckleheads has put on itself.
