Review: Hot Streets “Squid of the Dead” ; “The Final Stand”

Stand up for the season finale!

Overview (Spoilers Below)

“Squid of the Dead”

Its not made entirely clear why, but we’ve been at war with the underground species known as the Vek and there are those associated with the Vek that want to keep that war going. As a result, Claktar stages a fake assassination of himself perpetrated by Branski in front of the whole crowd. Fortunately, Branski and French are able to escape any serious harm with Jen, but Franch and Chubbie are still under water. Worst yet, there’s a bad guy looking to get us in the form of…

“The Final Stand”

Dracula and the Creepalong gang want to take down Hot Streets and he’s doing so by way of a…baseball game? Yep, Dracula owns Hot Streets but he’s wagering it on a baseball game. Jen leaves with Matt to go to the Porn Awards which leaves the Hot Streets team with nine players exactly. When one of them gets injured, in this case Tummy, it’s up to Franch to find Jen and make her come back so that the team can win the game.  But the REAL winner here is Chubbie Webbers who was able to stave off stage three cancer.

Our Take

This show certainly got real in the finale episode, helping encapsulate a nice serving of “remember this” from every episode the show has aired including the show’s pilot episode that became the crux to the final plot! I would have liked to have seen “Rock throwing Rick” make a comeback despite his untimely demise, but I’ll settle.

For my money, “Squid of the Dead” was the funnier of the two episodes because it was by far the craziest Branski has gotten in the show’s entire season. Punching a squid in the eye before escaping with it was solid gold though part of me wishes we got a better visual presentation of the Vek species in terms of setting and the characters. “The Final Stand” was a tad convoluted in its delivery, but where else are you going to see Dracula and the Creepalong gang? That was just a stroke of genius on the part of Wysol and Co., and I think if the show were to continue down THIS path, we could very well see something truly special. We’ll get into more detail on the series as a whole in our season review, but I’m thinking a season two should happen as soon as possible.
