Spoilers Below

Its the one year anniversary of famed actor ‘Calculon’s death and Bender and Fry aren’t exactly raving about the new guy who took his place in their favorite soap All My Circuits. Farnsworth claims to have the means to revive Calculon so Bender robs the grave, brings it back to HQ, and sets it up. But, first Fry and Bender have to go to hell and reclaim Calculon’s soul from the Robot Devil. At first Robot Devil doesn’t want to let Calculon go back up, but Fry challenges the bringer of death to a game but really the Devil just sends back Calculon without much fight. The Professor starts the procedure in revitalizing Calculon in sort of a weird ritual, but it works. Calculon is back!

Right away Bender, Fry, and Leela decide to bring Calculon to Hollywood to try and get him back on All My Circuits. Unfortunately, the President of the Network wants nothing to do with Calculon claiming the actor is yesterday’s news. However, Fry and Bender refuse to give up. To get back to his former grace, Calculon decides to show off his one-man show, but the critics trash it in the papers. Nevertheless, Calculon decides to march on annnnnd quit acting.

Leela convinces Calculon to don a disguise and give acting one last shot only this time as a bit actor on All My Circuits. Ironically enough, the casting agents are looking for a run down version of Calculon and they give him the job! Unfortunately, Calculon’s pompous attitude rears its ugly head and he flips out on set. The director threatens to fire Calculon if he doesn’t get the part right, so Leela kicks the shit out of his ego with verbal abuse and all of the sudden the once famed actor is brought down to Earth. Surprisingly enough, Calculon puts out a monologue that CRUSHES  and then he trashes the disguise to reveal himself only to meet an untimely end. BUT, at least Calculon gets his star back. Back in hell, Calculon couldn’t be happier, much to the chagrin of the Robot Devil.

I love Robot Hell, every time we go its a bunch of fun. This episode didn’t have a LOT of hell, but it had a enough to get me by. Having Robert Wagner in anything is a plus and the episode had a lot of nice novelties like cell phones that run networks, Bender singing on his way to a graveyard,  and newspapers in the 31st Century. But, overall the premise of the show was kinda of cliche and as a matter of fact had a lot of similar plot points to “Krusty Gets Cancelled” but not nearly as funny or as memorable. I like Calculon, but he’s no Krusty.
