Review: Family Guy ‘A Fistful of Meg’

Spoilers Below

Brian seems to have a real problem with Peter getting dressed in front of him and he makes it known even when it’s in the bathroom! Soon the nudity becomes a big joke for Peter even letting Lois in on the fun. Later, Peter actually UPS’s his penis which is kinda gross. Brian escapes into Stewie’s room whom convinces the dog to shave off his fur and get back at Peter once and for all. Brian does just that and boy is it gross as fuck and as such convinces Peter to never be naked in front of him again! Problem is, Brian gets really cold so he has to put on Stewie’s clothes for warmth and for the sake of everyone’s sanity.

Wait…Meg’s baby? At James Woods, we get a couple new kids including one named Mike whom is apparently a big-time bully that everyone is talking about. Unfortunately, Meg spills her lunch all over this kid Mike which causes him to challenge Meg to a fight on Friday. Don’t worry though, Chris has her back!

Meg’s pretty distressed and even tries to convince her mom to send her to a private school. A sex tape doesn’t work and neither does hiring the big kids to fight her battles. Worst yet, all of Meg’s friends ditch her when she’s at her most prone. Thankfully, Quamire’s hiding in the stalls and he agrees to help Meg train for her big fight.

Turns out Quagmire had a bully when he was in school and damn she was tough! Quagmire puts Meg through her paces and teaches her to use her ugliness to her advantage. On the day of the fight, Mike begins the battle by beating her head in. Meg retaliates by making out with him and then she pops a zit! Finally, Meg effectively kills Mike by flashing the poor bastard but she dies anyway.

When Family Guy remembers that it’s a cartoon and not real-life, it’s the best show on Earth. Not to say I don’t love the show when it takes more serious turns, but this episode showed off a more acrobatic writing staff whom was willing to try things a little darker than usual. And guess what? The only way that works is if the animation is just as gross, and that’s done to a ‘T’. From Brian’s raisin complexion to Peter cutting off his dick, THESE are the things the series has to do to stay funny. Meg was maybe the grossest coagulation ever thought of since maybe Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy. Her back was gross, her zits made me lose my appetite, and I don’t care how many Academy Awards she wins (and there will be a lot), Mila Kunis did a great job in keeping pace with whatever her character was doing on screen. Mila certainly did a fabulous job of accentuating Meg’s sick mind. The one downside this week was I thought there were one TOO many cut and breakaways, but that’s not to say some of them weren’t good. I think my favorites were Judge Judy, the Mike Tyson riff, and Inside the Actor’s Studio with a brilliant Jeff Daniels.

So, what did we learn this week? A fistful of Meg makes for a great episode of Family Guy.
