Season Review: Deep Space 69 Season One & Two

There was a time (2012) when Mondo Mini shows came out with a new animated pilot like every other week and it was during this time when Mondo premiered Deep Space 69 and although there were a BUNCH of pilots, it was good to see one make it through alive. Since then, we’ve seen two seasons of Deep Space 69 and for those that don’t know anything about the show the best way to describe it is if Rick and Morty was the Peter Griffin, then this show would surely be the Quagmire of space comedies.

Set in a world where planet-hopping is the norm, Deep Space 69 follows co-pilots, Jay and Hamilton, as they traverse through the cosmos looking to aid whoever requires their services. However, Jay’s exploits usually consist of orgies whereas Hamilton usually acts like the disapproving wet blanket, but even he jumps in for the fun every now and again.

Right now, you can watch Deep Space 69 for free on Mondo, but a bunch of the episodes usually do their best at hiding nudity and making sure the content is suitable for Youtube. Buying both seasons on Google Play for around $6 allows you to watch the series in greater detail. And who doesn’t like cartoon boob?

A couple of things I would’ve like to have seen with the purchase. For starters, I think SOME sort of bonus features would have made this thing a killer value. Like behind the scenes, or how an episode is made, whatever. I also found it a pain that we got credits every couple of minutes and I wish we could’ve done without those and just had them saved for the end because when you buy the collection you really are getting a film-esque experience, but then you’re reminded that this is a bunch of shorts tied together. Not a MAJOR gripe, but I got annoyed after a few episodes.

That said, Deep Space 69 is one of the best-written shows on the internet. The show’s crass humor, strong animation effects, and stellar voice cast make this series a sure-fire winner. Watching this series is a must, buying this collection is a maybe.
