Album REVIEW: Brendon Small’s Galaktikon

The guys over at Technorati sure love them some Brendon Small. Recently, they interviewed the son of a bitch and now they get a full stream of his latest ‘audio comic book’ known as Galaktikon a new project featuring Dethklok band members Gene Hoglan and Bryan Beller. After the jump, you can check out what we thought of Brendon’s latest venture and see if its up to snuff.

I tried going into this review unbiased, because I am almost fanatical about Metalocalypse.  It  doesn’t go so well.

So, everyone who has followed Dethklok, from the show Metalocalypse, to the touring of Brendon Small, and Gene Hoglan, all know of Small’s love for metal.  You don’t really need to look much further than Metalocalypse.  So, if you are looking for your next Dethklok fix, you can look no further than Brendon Small’s Galaktikon.

First thing you will realize, when the opening beats to Triton start, is that it’s a Brendon Small band.  Why?  Most of the songs sound like it was supposed to be The Dethalbum 3.  Luckily, Brendon isn’t a one act play, and he does a couple songs that sound nothing like Dethklok.  See:  Deathwaltz and You can’t Run Away.  These two are the best of the cd, in my humble opinion.

The long turnaround between seasons apparently gave Small to work on his vocal range.  Instead of the always growling Nathan Explosion, we get a singer.  Favorite tracks on the album are Beastblade, Deathwaltz and You Can’t Run Away.

Now, for anyone who knows me, they know that I HATE comparing anything to Avenged Sevenfold.  But Small is what M. Shadows wishes he was.   The vocals mix well, both on the Dethklok-ish and the not Dethklok songs.  In fact, I am listening to You Can’t run away again, and I am blown away.  Go get this album, now.  Two handed metal horn way up
