Review: Bob’s Burgers “The Silence of the Louise”

Enjoy the silence.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The kids are slated to go to the water park but not until Mr. Frond finds out who mutilated his dolls. Not believing he’ll be able to figure it out, Louise and her siblings decide to crack the caper. Louise opts to turn to Millie for help in figuring out who the hell ruined Frond’s dolls. Louise decides to bring the dolls to an expert but Millie’s turning into a real friend in the process. Zeke turns himself into Frond as the guilty party…but it’s not really him behind the crime because whoever is doing this went ahead and took down another one of Frond’s dolls. We come to find out that Frond’s been messing with the dolls this whole time because the teachers had spent the money they were supposed to use for the trip.

Meanwhile, Teddy gets into the inspirational poster business and Bob’s Burgers becomes the first customer. Linda seems to love the posters, but Bob really can’t stand them. Eventually, Teddy and his partner get into an argument over the look of the poster but comes to learn that social media is winning this battle anyway and it’s beginning to affect poster sales. During a busy shift, Bob starts to appreciate the poster a heck of a lot more and he convinces Teddy to keep doing his poster business.

Our Take

The kids going off to solve a mystery with Louise is a common trope by now, but the fun is trying to figure out how the producers of Bob’s Burgers are gonna end it and this week’s episode was perhaps one of the best yet in that department. Frond is one of the more quirky characters in the show despite being an authority figure and David Herman (the voice of Frond) does an excellent job in displaying those emotions and not showing the character’s hands in guilt. Personally, my money was on Millie as the guilty party, but maybe that’s because Molly Shannon’s “Millie” is so damn good I just want a whole show with her. Her best scenes are definitely the Silence of the Lambs callbacks though I could be biased because that’s one of my favorite shows ever.

Teddy and Bob’s bit was also a bit more on the familiar side but with not quite as unexpected of a plot twist. Quite frankly, I don’t even know if anyone under the age of 25 is even going to know what a poster is and this is coming from a 32-year old that just bought a King Parrot poster last night.
