Review: Archer “Deadly Prep”

0As we continue on into the seventh season of Archer, it seems it’s time to sign AJ up for preschool, but even that can turn into a deadly affair for the formally world’s greatest spy. Did it make for a good episode? Read on to find out!

In Deadly Affair “Archer attends a prep school reunion, which leads to an interesting business opportunity.”

This was an excellent episode of Archer. My first huge plus about the episode, and this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but AJ is growing up. It’s time to sign her up for preschool. It’s good to see she won’t remain a baby for the rest of the show’s run. Another example of how Archer is more than willing to change. They know exactly how to keep things fresh.

Another positive about this episode was the story. What initially felt like a boring episode waiting to happen, we’re introduced to Archer’s school bully who makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Of course, things end up getting a little crazy and we have an action sequence and the credits roll.

I think this episode is another that shows the vulnerable side of Archer. Another item on the list of things that made him the guy that he is today. He was severely bullied and it shows with how he treats others. Archer is a character with many interesting layers and it’s always neat to see them pulled back and examined.

This is another episode that sort of put the private investigating thing on the shelf in the name of action. It seems they aren’t really married to the idea of them being P.Is. Still, it’s a fun element for them to dabble with when they want.

Overall, this was another fun episode of Archer. Probably the best of the season thus far. We’re seeing the show evolve yet again. These characters are changing, yet staying the same. There were a lot of interesting scenes that show is more about Archer, we get a cool action scene, and a lot of funny banter. That is really the formula for the perfect episode of Archer. Still, I think the episode could have benefited from a better opening.
