Review: American Dad! “The Two Hundred” (S13Ep10)

Tonight’s new American Dad! episode “The Two Hundred” was pretty great. They’ve been talking about this episode since December 2014, when they had their 200th anniversary cast/crew shindig— we’ve all been looking forward to this one for a long time.

The cold open starts after a long sequence with Stan walking through a deserted and trashed Langley Falls, and the theme song is interrupted by a warning signal– something kind of post-apocalyptic.

It turns out that Stan is looking for his family, and keeps telling long, drawn-out stories about all the tattoos with which he’s covered. Stan meets up with Principal Lewis, and Greg, and finally Roger, as they journey to find the rest of the Smiths.

The art in this episode is beyond stellar. Even when the story veers in weird directions, or there’s some kinda unfunny stuff going on, there are still some hilarious gems hidden within this romp. The end of the episode is super bizarre, and we find out what really caused the apocalypse.

This episode is reminiscent of several other episodes– the rapture one, the cannibalism one, the family adventure… but somehow, it still remains its own saga. Very good writing in the episode makes it move along well, there are some really funny spots despite the dry nature of some of these goings-on in The Two Hundred.
