The Jollywood Jam

Spoilers Below

Jollywood celebrate Hero’s Day Concert to commemorate the Founding Father’s victory over an evil warlock that was Grim’s great-great-great-grandfather. The concert production takes lots, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of practice much to the chagrin of the dwarves. Happy’s in charge, but his conductor baton accidentally gets switched with Grim’s magic wand that reads minds following a collision with the Glooms’ wagon. This wand was originally given to Grim as a present for the Hero’s day which is typically a bummer of a day for the Glooms’. Hildy originally wanted Grim to use the wand to ruin the day for the dwarves and everyone else in Jollywood, but the 7D seem to be having a TIME with the Glooms’ wand and thus put on a show for the ages! Grim eventually gets back his wand, but a dog snatches it and starts going nuts with it much to the chagrin of the Glooms. Meanwhile, the 7D get a standing ovation.

By far this is the best episode of The 7D that I’ve seen. Granted it starts out the same way as all of the others, the Glooms get a gadget…blah blah blah. But, what was awesome about this week’s episode was the epic montage starring all of the 7D going through the different parts of their performance. 8-Bit, Black and White, and a whole bunch of other styles that were put together quite effortlessly. Even the Glooms didn’t get in the way of ruining anything.

Hildy the Good

Hildy decides to destroy the Hollywood dam, but Dopey saves the day by summoning a loyal army of beavers to stop any sort of flooding. This annoys Hildy to no end, so much so that instead of trying to beat the 7D, she decides to join them…kinda. She orders a package in the mail to make her turn good so that she can overthrow the Queen and be in charge of Jollywood. Hildy reveals herself to being good for the 7D, but the guys aren’t buying it. To prove her worth, Hildy decides to destroy Grim dressed up as a troll. It’s all a setup you see, Hildy asks Grim to act like a jerk, just so she can win over crowds for saving the day! Eventually, Hildy gives up the act and banishes the Queen, so the 7D show up to the castle to save the day. The dwarves summon the beavers again and the Glooms get sent off to an abandoned island, but Grim doesn’t seem to mind.

The second portion of tonight’s episode wasn’t all that bad either. I loved the idea that the Glooms kinda won this round, only to lose near the end. Moreover, I really enjoyed Hildy’s singing as done by Kelly O., and is by far her strongest episode yet. That said, I don’t feel like we got a lot of time to really mull over the gravity of Hildy taking over Jollywood, and to be honest, the Queen seemed like she was quite alright being thrown from power. I think a better written effort in the plot department could’ve done this one better.
