Review: The 7D ”Grim the Dragon/Free Teensy”

Spoilers Below

Grim the Dragon

After a dragon torches Jollywood, the 7D have to come to the rescue, but The Glooms have other ideas. The brother and sister duo opt to get a dragon of their own, but instead of buying one, Hildy ends up turning Grim into one of the snarling beasts. Unfortunately for her, Grim looks like a Barney reject, but a much bigger dragon decides to take him under his ummm wing. The big dragon starts caring for Grim like he’s one of its own and now Hildy wants him back!

Dressed as Little Bo Peep, Hildy heads to the 7D to try and get some help. After a few swings, the dwarves get caught by the dragon, so Happy has to sing it to sleep in order to escape. In Grim’s place is the rightful baby dragon and he turns back into a human. Mama throws the two OUT and the dragon becomes friends with the dwarves.

This is our first time reviewing the 7D, and it isn’t a bad show. For starters, the dwarves look straight out of Gravity Falls, and Kelly Osbourne plays Hildy and does probably her best voice role yet and does well opposite Jess Harnell’s Grim. However, it seems as though we spend more time with The Glooms than we do with the 7D which stinks because they look so damn cute. Grim’s dragon looked like Puff the Magic dragon and was pretty hysterical.

Free Teensy

Grim and Hilda head to a carnival after coming across a ring that has magical powers that can turn anyone into animals. She turns herself into a mouse, but the ring gets lost and swallowed by one of the fish. That same fish gets won by the Queen, and it may have some sort of thyroid disease, because the thing gets bigger and bigger. So big, it outgrows its fish bowl and is thrown into the castle’s moat. While there, the fish discovers its new ring powers.  When the Glooms show up to try and get the ring, the fish turns into a catfish and swallows Hildy, then it turns into a shark and eats Grim. The Queen wants to know what the fuck is going on, so she calls the 7D to see if they can diagnose the fish’s problem. The dwarves decide to take the fish (with the Glooms still inside looking for the ring) and transport it to the ocean so this way it has all the room in the world to grow. It’s here that the fish meets a lady, then spits out the Glooms and their ring, leaving the jewelry to be lost undersea. However, are there more gargantuan fish in town?

Again, why do we open up episodes with the Glooms? Similar to the first episode, the Glooms are trying to conjure up some magic from something, but this time Hilda’s the one who gets turned into a creature of sorts. I don’t think the fish turning into all sorts of animals was all that creative, nor was the writing. If I’m a fish, why would I turn into other fish? Why wouldn’t I just get the hell out of the pool and walk into a bar? The 7D? Once again, somewhat marginalized. Not a great week to launch this show into prime time.
