Reddit AMA Recap: Matthew Mercer and Erin Cahill, the voice talent of Leon S. Kennedy and Rebecca Chambers of Resident Evil: Vendetta

See what the guys had to say!

In anticipation of the brand-new animated feature coming this month, Matthew Mercer (voice of “Leon) and Erin Cahill (voice of “Rebecca”) were on hand to take part in a Reddit AMA session where the duo answered questions posted by fans about Resident Evil: Vendetta along with a bunch of odds and ends. We scanned through and plucked the highlights so as to give you additional insight into what to expect in the upcoming animated film. Check it out below:

On taking inspiration from previous voice role players

Matt: Quite a bit! I listened and took a lot of cues from Paul Mercier’s portrayal (the one that originally drew me in), and then made it my own from there. I wanted to make it familiar and respectful to the previous performances, but also a little fresher.

Erin: I actually didn’t know about Rebecca before I got the part. Once I found out who she is in the franchise I was SO excited! I have grown to love her and the fans so much

Favorite part of working on this film

Matt: For me, any chance to step into the boots of Leon is a gift. The occasional opportunity to play him is like seeing an old friend after a long time away. Comfortable, and full of nostalgia.

On the new direction of Resident Evil 7

Matt: I think the franchise definitely needed an injection of new narrative, so I wasn’t let down at all not having him in there. I do sincerely hope they eventually loop back into the original RE stories/characters with the themes and classic horror elements that RE7 brought back in. (also, I just want to be able to be Leon again, hehe)

On Ada and Leon’s relationship in Vendetta

Matt: Leon and Ada have a very interesting, complicated relationship. What romance that is there is peppered with mistrust, yearning, and playful denial. I imagine he misses elements of her, and REALLY doesn’t miss others.

On Leon’s state of mind in Vendetta

Matt: He’s certainly reeling still from the events of Damnation and RE6, so prepare for that emotional baggage.

Who is the most dynamic character in Vendetta

Matt: Could be Leon. He’s the cynic and wise-crack master. Probably Rebecca, though. She’s the heart of this story.
