A couple months ago I was privy to check out an early preview of an upcoming animated series called Jimmy Stones being produced by Bill Schultz (The Simpsons) the head of Home Plate Entertainment (Wild Grinders). What I saw was a fantastic looking series that dealt with subjects and ideas that are fresh yet dark and callous. The other day, Bill announces that he has teamed up with Dexter’s Jim Manos to launch a crowdfunding campaign to get the pilot together in an effort to shop it to networks. We’ll talk more about the campaign later, so for now let’s dive into notes fresh from a recent Reddit AMA that should get you guys excited.

So what is Jimmy Stones about? So says Bill,

Jimmy is about a guy who wants to checkout as opposed to fight the system — we can all relate. But his problem is for some reason every animal in NYC decides to start bitching him out and befriending him – in an effort to get him back in the game. Of course you have to see how JAMES MANOS JR handles that! Sick Bastard!

Jim goes on to further explain the struggles that the titular character deals with:

Most of the world (the humans) want to keep Jimmy down, but it’s the animals (with human personalities) that want to re-invigorate Jimmy’s life. The question will be this: Will Jimmy learn to be a good person again and realize his potential or will just continue drinking and smoking himself into oblivion.

As of now, Bill has been voicing Jimmy in the pilot, however Bill and Jim both mention during the course of the AMA who they would like to see voice the lead character. Jason Bateman comes up in a bunch of the answers. I love Jason, however after having seen pilot I’m OPINING for Marc Maron or Doug Stanhope with Stanhope being the preference.  Bill goes on to explain what exactly the crowdfunded series will entail:

For the campaign we are going to do 10 three minute episodes – but if we go past – we would do a longer piece – either 11 minutes or..? We hope people will like what they are seeing and want more episodes – we would like to have a network be willing to take the show as Jim sees it — not try to water it down – but that will take support from all the people who contribute to the campaign www.jimmystonestv.com

That last link is important, it’s the link you press to go and donate TODAY so that Jimmy Stones can get made and hopefully shopped to networks. Check out more Reddit AMA where Jim does his best to quell fans of Dexter about the finale, and Bill answers a bunch of Simpsons questions.
