New Adult Animated Series From Taraji P. Henson And Zoë Kravitz In Development

Deadline has two exclusive reports for upcoming adult animated series that are being produced by a very under-served demographic…black women. Both projects sound like a lot of fun and in an increasingly hungry adult animation market, these are long overdue.

First up, Deadline is reporting that Zoë Kravitz is starring and producing in a new adult animated series that is being written by India Sage Wilson and produced by Westbrook Studios. Says the report:

Created, written and executive produced by Wilson, Phatty Patty is based on Wilson’s life experience growing up as a bi-racial girl, trying to find her place in the world. During the early 2000s, at the height of Britney vs. Christina, 9-year-old Patty Palecki’s dreams of stardom are crushed when she discovers Mick Jagger is not her biological father. Inspired by Wilson’s own journey toward self-acceptance as a biracial girl in a predominantly white community, the series chronicles Patty; a fourth-grader fresh out of f*cks to give, on her quest to shine brighter than her light up Sketchers.

Next up, Deadline is reporting that Anthony Hemingway & Taraji P. Henson are developing an adult animated series known as Unmentionables that’s all about “mismatched underwear and the millennial human who wears them.” The series is being co-created by Danielle Pinnock and Punam Patel.

Our Take

Both series sound hilarious, but it’s Unmentionables that could potentially get ordered quickly due to the fact that the series comes from Hemingway and Henson, both of whom have overall deals with 20th Century FOX which would give networks like FOX, Hulu, and FX Networks an inside track, though 20th Century have also done deals with HBO MAX, Netflix, and AppleTV+. Zoe’s a big star, however, I’m sure she’ll have no trouble landing a network.
