Indiana ‘Simpsons’ Superfan Looks to Set Guinness Record with Merch Collection

McNall Simpsons collection

Cards on the table, I consider myself quite the Simpsons expert. I’ve seen every episode, have an encyclopedic knowledge of the show, own all the DVDs, and as a kid taped every installment to date on a series of 30+ VHS tapes. Still, 38-year-old Travis McNall has a collection that would put me and any fan to shame: 3,096 pieces of Simpsons merchandise.

McNall, who goes by the nickname “Bart,” (probably because of the former Packers quarterback, right?) is currently in need of two people to help count his growing lot, in hopes of setting a Guinness World Record.

“There’s a person in Australia who currently has 2,580,” McNall said to News Channel 15 in Fort Wayne. “And I have them beat by over 500.”

“I’m hard to shop for because I already have everything,” he said of his collection, which contains more obscure items than a line of Krusty the Clown merchandise – including an original sketch of Bart (the character) used in an episode. McNall has even amassed old pizza boxes, cups, and Valentine’s Day cards from the show.

Even if he’s given the record, the superfan has no intention of stopping.

“I’ll collect until the day I die,” he said. Maybe before then he’ll think to nab a Simpsons casket and matching headstone.

Guinness World Records staff requires the two necessary counters to be strangers of McNall. Family and friends are not allowed to verify the collection.

So, Bart, if you really want to make this official: I, Gonzo Green, hereby volunteer my services. I can count; really high too. Honest.

You’ve got a Simpsons plane in that collection, right?
