HBO orders The Gorburger Show for pilot which should be awesome

Anyone who hasn’t watched The Gorburger Show should just stop what they are doing, reassess why they are alive, then watch the entire run of episodes on Youtube. Especially for fans of Golan the Insatiable, this is like a live-action take on that but in a talk show.

For those that don’t know, Gorburger is an alien from outer space with an insatiable bloodlust and he has invaded and taken a Japanese news network hostage. He now hosts his own talk show where he interviews bands, musicians, and celebrities.

The character of Gorburger is played by TJ Miller and the best way to describe the series is take Where the Wild Things Are and cross that with Comedy Bang! Bang! and you have a good idea of where to start.

According to Deadline.com, HBO has ordered a pilot for the series that would see Ed Helms, Johnny Knoxville, Moby and a music collaboration with Danny Brown and HEALTH, with Eagles of Death Metal performing a new song from their upcoming LP.

The pilot is for a half-hour project, created, co-written and directed by Josh Martin and Ryan McNeely (aka The Director Brothers) and co-written by Silicon Valley‘s Miller who also voices and puppets the title character, an animatronic monster.

If and when the show premiers, it will be interesting to see how the episodes get produced. As of now, the series (now in its second season) airs sporadically during the course of the year with no set schedule or run time. I would think on HBO, we would get that, so we’ll have to see what happens when the series premiers.

So yea, between The Jack and Triumph Show, The Muppets, and now this series, puppets are experiencing a renaissance on television and I hope it continues for the foreseeable future.
