English Dub Review: Recovery of an MMO Junkie “On A Moonlit Evening”

Say how you truly feel.

Overview:

It’s the last episode, and Sakurai and Moriko have a lot to talk about.

Our Take:

Moriko was less flustered by Sakurai being Lily and Harth and more about being pinned to be Sakurai’s girlfriend. While Sakurai thought he was putting her off, Moriko was actually kind of fascinated. She understands that Sakurai is responsible for a lot of happiness in her life, and highly respects him. The only issue is that she is still very uncomfortable

She also brings up something very important about her NEET status— that as much as she mentally bragged about it, she never really felt comfortable saying she was a NEET. Despite her front, she always felt shame for being too overindulgent, since she knew that in the end, completely neglecting society wasn’t for the best. She still finds immense value in her gaming experience, but deep down, she always knew that it shouldn’t have been the more important thing in her life. At the same time, she knows that gaming was also a positive experience, for, without it, she could never have met Sakurai.

In the end, the two are honest and frank about their feelings for each other- Moriko about her respect, and Sakurai about his romance. By finally being completely open about their feelings towards each other, they are able to truly see each other. It ends with the two of them starting to date, despite how they vehemently deny it to Koiwai. Koiwai is also still the best wingman, as usual.

There’s a sad little scene at the end where they walk away from their game selves, but it makes sense. They don’t need their avatars to connect as human beings, or to progress in their relationship. Games brought them together, but it doesn’t have to be the only thing binding them. Overall, a very cute ending to a fun show.
