English Dub Review: New Game! “Wow… It’s So Amazing…”

Not THAT amazing, but one of the better episodes.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On this week’s episode of New Game, Nene Quest is completed, and the creator decides to start revealing to all of her friends who happen to like the challenging aspects of the playthrough. Later, we are introduced to Yamato who comes to Eagle Jump to let Aoba and Ko that the publisher wants to promote the game as a game with visuals from Ko so as to get some of the built-in audience from her prior successes with Fairy Stories. Ko flips out, claiming that the publisher just screwed over Aoba, to which, Aoba challenges Ko to another competition on the visuals with the winner getting the credits. The girls are still friends, but the pressure is definitely on, as the rest of the episode deals with Aoba’s new stresses as it pertains to making sure she does a good job in the new competition which will be held in a few days with the winner decided by Hajime. Ko wins, but Aoba accepts the defeat.

Our Take

One of the better episodes of the show’s second season. I think I would’ve preferred a few episodes to really build out some suspension for the competition, but I like the moral of the story which is “it’s business as usual”. Good for Nene on her new game build out, but I didn’t like the way that we glossed over the Ko vs Aoba battle. In any case, I couldn’t help but feel for Aoba this week and am looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
