English Dub Review: Lastman “Your Hermit Crab Looks Like One Nasty Dude”

You nasty.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Richard and Duke advance past the semi-finals and Howard’s trying to get a read on their opponents, one of whom is a Ren sent to stop the duo from winning the cup that would fix Siri, the latter of whom is getting visions about Richard dying in the ring. Odd, due to the fact that it’s Duke that’s having apparent heart issues while fighting not unlike Randy “The Ram” from The Wrestler. Siri decides to try to take out the competition on her own, but Richard stops her, and it would not have made a difference because if a final battle doesn’t happen the cup doesn’t change hands. We also get a bit of fall out from Katana and Richard’s rift, which is, Katana wants nothing to do with him, and she even pulls a page from the Taylor Swift playbook and writes a song about him.

Our Take

We’re starting to wrap some loose ends up, but I love the added arc of Duke potentially dying. That said, here’s another character that the producers never really gave us a DEEP understanding of, so if he dies would we care? This has been a running theme the last few episodes, causing great harm to ancillary characters that we really don’t spend a bunch of time with so there’s no real care if they die. The only purpose Duke’s ailment takes on is will he die in the final fight? As it pertains to Katana, the only thing that really came of her involvement was a silly song. But, again, no real vested interest in her. Richard and Siri? LOTS of vested interest and that’s nearly coming to a head. The boxing fight that we got was rather short, probably on purpose, and with no real build up. And the whole bit with the rat in the gym was kinda bizarre. But, I like that Siri’s starting to go nuts because it adds yet another dynamic that could cause some issues sooner rather than later.
